A Champion in Their Own Right – The Bureau of the Fiscal Service Innovates ACT-IAC Imagine Nation ELC 2019
Date: November 4, 2019
If you didn’t know, Washington, DC is the District of Champions! The Washington Capitals, the Washington Mystics and recently, the Washington Nationals have brought home titles in the past 18 months.
In the Federal Government arena, the Bureau of the Fiscal Service championed their way this October at the American Council for Technology-Industry Advisory Council (ACT-IAC) Imagine Nation Executive Leadership Conference in Philadelphia. They brought their “A” game with topics such as Data Transparency, Data Lake, Robotic Process Automation, and the government-wide 10-year Financial Management Vision. The Office of Financial Innovation and Transformation (FIT) and the Payment Integrity Center of Excellence presented through game-changing innovative sessions, informative marketing, and enlightening videos.
At the Fiscal Service booth, fans from industry and the federal government wanted to learn more about identifying improper payments from the Payment Integrity Center of Excellence, government spending through the Data Transparency’s focus groups, the Data Lake management platform, and how to make connections through the Financial Management Agency Innovation Partnership and the Financial Management Innovation Showcase.
John B. Hill, Assistant Commissioner of FIT, led a rewarding session “North Star of ET: Achieving Omni channel of CX Excellence” that looked at government agencies seeking various emerging technologies to help in delivering seamless experiences, content, and support for their wide-ranging services.
FIT staff dominated the automation technology scene with visionary sessions such as Jennifer Hill’s presentations, “RPA: Future of the Automated Workplace,” and “Integrated Digital Experiences that Put People First,” and a tag-team integrated workshop with Craig Fischer on “Understanding and Leveraging Transformative Technologies in Government.” Attendees left the venue with some of the best practices for launching an emerging technology proof of concept/pilot and how to avoid some of the pitfalls that often stall these efforts.
The Fiscal Service did not get a Stanley Cup, a championship trophy, or the Commissioner’s trophy at ACT-IAC Imagine Nation ELC 2019.But, as any underdog, who must compete with the likes of Microsoft and Amazon, Fiscal Service showed that it will continue to champion impactful government-wide financial management innovations and improvements for its customers one project at a time.
